Fur Fashion's Deadly Secret

Donate NowThe Chinese fur industry is skinning cats and dogs alive for use in clothes and fashion accessories, and we need your help to stop it.

A horde of grisly evidence recently turned up in European stores, including a coat stitched together from 40 German shepherd puppies and a rug made from four golden retrievers.

As shocking as this is, it shouldn't be surprising. In addition to causing miserable lives and sadistic deaths for millions of fur-bearing animals, the fashion industry has a deadly secret. The secret is where fur comes from, and it's not what most people think.

Many of the fur items hanging in stores today are made from domestic dogs and cats.

Please help me end this unthinkable practice by making a secure online donation today.

Mislabeled as Asian jackal, raccoon, or even rabbit, millions of dogs and cats are being killed for their fur—including some who are still wearing the collars that their loving guardians chose for them.

This is the dirty secret of the Chinese fur industry and the international fur trade that supports it—one that we discovered in a daring undercover investigation.

Our investigators went into an animal market in Southern China and found that cats and dogs were languishing—with 20 cats crammed into a tiny cage. Some had been on the road for days—transported without any food or water. There were dead and dying cats and dogs everywhere, some with open wounds.

These are the animals who end up as fur collars on coats or as lining for winter boots or gloves. Their fur is sold to unsuspecting consumers in some of the best-known American and European stores.

We must make this stop. We need to keep the pressure on the Chinese government as well as the fashion retailers who provide a market for dog and cat fur until they finally reject this abominable industry. Working together, I know that we can stop this cruel practice and save millions of animals each year. We've already convinced many top retailers and designers to take the fur-free pledge, and with dozens more taking initial steps toward compassion, I have seen how effective our campaigns can be.

Now we need to address one of the most unimaginably cruel industries. Please make as generous a tax-deductible donation as you can so we never have to witness the likes of that animal market ever again.

Thank you for everything you do for animals.

With gratitude,
Ingrid Newkirk

P.S. While you're reading this e-mail, cats and dogs are being sold for their fur in animal markets in China. Please help us protect animals from the fur trade by making a secure, tax-deductible online donation today.

Help PETA Save God's Creatures from Abuse

Breaking News: PETA Investigators Expose Another KFC 'Supplier of the Year'

Companies that torture, kill, and exploit animals depend on people's ignorance. They go to extreme lengths to hide their hideous abuses from the public. So PETA goes even further to uncover the truth.

KFC thought that it could hide the fact that its suppliers' workers delight in torturing chickens. Fashion designers thought that they could cover up the fact that many of their "raccoon fur" coats are actually made from dogs who are killed and skinned alive in China. And medical laboratory Biosearch believed no one would ever know that its employees were dripping caustic substances into terrified kittens' eyes.

They were all wrong. Thanks to PETA's undercover investigations, the world has seen graphic evidence of the horrific cruelties that these companies are perpetrating. Once we've exposed the abuse, it's only a matter of time before it stops. You and I have seen it happen time and again.

PETA's investigations have forced hundreds of the largest and best-known companies to stop hurting animals. It is your support that drives our lifesaving work. By making an online donation to PETA today, you can help us take down the next corporate abuser that thinks no one is watching.

Your donation is crucial because these investigations require an enormous amount of resources. We must create a fake identity for our investigators and get them hired at companies that are abusing animals. Every day, our investigators must appear to be doing their jobs — while actually videotaping the horrors that they see. They can't quit until we have enough proof to take to the public.

I often fear for the safety of PETA's undercover investigators. But I know that they do it because our investigations are the only hope for animals who are tortured and killed behind locked doors.

Please make a special donation to support our investigative work in behalf of animals today. Your donation will send this powerful message to every company that abuses animals: You have no refuge, no safe haven, nowhere to hide.

With gratitude,
Ingrid Newkirk

P.S. By supporting PETA's undercover investigations, you are refusing to allow animal suffering to take place in silence. With your support today, the world will learn about the violence inflicted upon animals used by the cruelest industries. Thank you for speaking up for these forgotten animals.

"For all forest creatures are mine already, as are the animals on a thousand hills; I know all the birds in the mountains; whatever moves in the fields is mine." [Psalms 50:10-11]

What else makes hunters happy in Canada?

Polar Bears With Cubs, Susanne Miller, FWS
Help put an end to American trophy hunting of Canadian polar bears.

Urge your Senators and Representative to support the Polar Bear Protection Act today!

Take Action red

Fast Fact
Polar Bear in Ice, Marie Webber/USFWSOn thin ice, polar bears' large paws act like snowshoes, distributing their weight as they walk to avoid breaking through. Unfortunately global warming is melting the sea ice these creatures need to survive.

Increase your impact: tell others to get involved. Forward this message on to others who care about polar bears and other wildlife.

Polar bear populations in the U.S. and Canada are decreasing. So why is the U.S. still allowing American trophy hunters to kill Canadian polar bears and bring them home?

Take action now. Urge your Senators and Representative to close this deadly loophole and ban the import of Canadian polar bears killed as trophies.

Canadian polar bear populations -- like those in America -- are declining due to global warming and other threats.

In fact, the World Conservation Union's Polar Bear Specialist Group predicts that polar bear populations could drop 30% in the next 35-50 years and that polar bears may disappear entirely from most of their range within 100 years.

Hunting polar bears is already banned in the U.S. But last week Senators John Kerry (D-MA) and Olympia Snow (R-ME) and Representatives Jay Inslee (D-WA) and Frank LoBiondo (R-NJ) introduced the Polar Bear Protection Act -- a bill that would close a deadly loophole and end imports of polar bears taken as trophies from Canada.

To kick off Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund’s Campaign to Save Polar Bears, I’m asking for your help to get this important legislation passed.

Take action -- tell your Representative to support the Polar Bear Protection Act today!

Defenders Action Fund's Campaign to Save Polar Bears is dedicated to preserving and protecting polar bears for future generations -- and these beloved bears are in desperate need of our help.

Big Oil’s drills threaten to drive polar bears from key denning habitat; toxic pollution continues to take its toll; and global warming is melting vital sea ice needed for breeding, denning and hunting.

On top of it all, a little-known loophole in the Marine Mammal Protection Act -- the federal law currently charged with protecting polar bears -- allows U.S. big game hunters to secure permits to kill Canadian polar bears and bring them back to this country.

Please help close this deadly loophole for good. Write your Representative and Senators today -- urge them to support the Polar Bear Protection Act.

We need to do all we can to save our polar bears. I hope you’ll help.

Rodger Schlickeisen, President Signature

Do You Find Entertainment in Cruelty to Animals?

Stop the Cruelest Show on Earth

So, you took your kids to the circus. Do you think they'd enjoy knowing how such large, proud beasts as elephants submit to such silly tricks for our entertainment? Do you think they'd enjoy knowing how they're beaten into submission?

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is just beginning its 2007 tour across North America. The circus's cruelty to animals is indisputable.

Two PETA investigators tracked Ringling at every stop of its 2006 tour. Out of public view, they documented on videotape that Ringling employees were viciously hitting elephants and striking them with bullhooks until the animals bled and cried out—in addition to many other acts of cruelty.

According to eyewitness accounts, Ringling's head elephant trainer savagely beat an elephant with a bullhook behind her ear, on her leg, and on her back. The trainer swung the bullhook with such force that its point was embedded inside the elephant's ear canal.

The abuses that PETA has uncovered have led to multiple open investigations of Ringling by the U.S. government and have cost the circus a national tour sponsor. PETA's work has left "the greatest show on Earth" with dwindling attendance numbers.

But Ringling still refuses to retire its abusive animal acts. I am writing to you today to ask for your help pressuring Ringling and all companies that use animals for "entertainment" to stop their abusive practices.

For animals, another Ringling tour means another year of beatings and long days chained or confined to cramped, poorly ventilated boxcars.

If we work together, we can hold Ringling accountable for its cruelty to animals. But we need your support. Please make a donation today to support our campaign to get live animals out of circuses and all other forms of entertainment. There is nothing entertaining about animal abuse!

Can I count on your support to help stop Ringling's abuse in the name of family entertainment? I sincerely hope that the answer is yes. You and I are the only hope that these animals have.

For all animals,
Ingrid Newkirk
Ingrid E. Newkirk
President

P.S. Your support will help PETA expose the suffering of animals used by Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus and get animals out of entertainment acts. Please stand with us for the animals' sake by supporting our vital work with as generous a tax-deductible donation as you can afford. Thank you.
